A Sweet Gesture for Someone Who Does So Much
I’m writing this from the passenger seat of our car, headed to my in-laws’ house with two little ones in tow and a meal ready to prep when we arrive.
It’s my mother-in-law’s birthday today. Karen is always doing so much for us—watching the kids, checking in, making sure we never leave her house without a full heart (and a full fridge). So tonight, we’re bringing dinner to her.
We decided on a grill-out—because we’ve been gifted an unseasonably cool 75-degree day. On the menu: a few of her favorites, along with a couple of small gifts she mentioned wanting. But my favorite part? The lemon cookies.

Karen loves anything lemon, and I went back and forth about baking her a cake. But with a few family members not as adventurous in the flavor department (team chocolate and vanilla all the way), I worried it might go uneaten. So instead, Charlotte and I baked lemon cookies this morning, just the two of us, with flour everywhere and little hands sneaking dough.

They’re simple, but filled with thought. We picked the recipe just for her, and she was on our minds with every stir, roll, and sprinkle of sugar. I hope she feels that when she takes her first bite.

Sometimes, it’s not about going over the top. It’s about making something with love, thinking of someone in the process, and creating a small, meaningful moment they’ll remember.
The recipe we used is linked here.

I was gifted the to go box I used, but love these linked below as alternatives.
